WhatsApp Adds Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and iPad Account Support

WhatsApp is introducing a range of new features aimed at expanding its cross-device experience, including enhanced Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, direct account registration on iPad, music sharing for Status updates and built-in PDF support. The updates are part of Meta’s broader effort to make WhatsApp a more complete communication platform beyond traditional mobile messaging.

The latest release improves how WhatsApp functions across vehicles, tablets and desktop devices while adding new sharing and productivity tools for users.

CarPlay and Android Auto receive major improvements

WhatsApp has upgraded its integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, allowing users to do more while driving. Previously, drivers could only compose messages and place calls through the in-car systems.

With the latest update, users can now listen to incoming messages, send replies, view recent call history and quickly access favourite contacts directly from their vehicle’s infotainment display, providing a more complete hands-free messaging experience.

Standalone WhatsApp accounts arrive on iPad.

Meta is also introducing direct account registration for the iPad app. Since launching WhatsApp for iPad last year, users have requested the ability to create an account without first linking it to a smartphone.

Although users still need a valid phone number to receive the one-time verification code, the iPad version can now operate as a standalone account after setup instead of functioning solely as a companion device connected to a primary phone.

The company said the change is intended to make WhatsApp more accessible across multiple devices while simplifying the registration process for tablet users.

Music sharing and PDF tools expand productivity

WhatsApp users can now share songs directly from Apple Music or Spotify to their Status updates, giving friends a quick way to see whathey’rere listening to and adding another option for personal expression.

The platform is also adding native PDF support on web and desktop. Users can open PDF documents inside WhatsApp without downloading them first and perform lightweight edits such as highlighting and annotating files directly within chats.

The new features build on a series of recent updates from WhatsApp. In recent months, the messaging platform introduced usernames to let users share their profiles without revealing their phone numbers and launched the WhatsApp Plus subscription, which adds premium features including profile customisation, enhanced reactions and additional story insights.
