WhatsApp Introduces New Group Chat Features, Including Member Tags

WhatsApp has announced a new set of features to enhance group chats, including member tags, text stickers, and event reminders, as part of its latest update.

One of the key additions is member tags, which allow users to assign descriptive labels to themselves within specific group chats. These tags help provide context about a user’s identity or role in a group. For instance, the same person could appear as “Anna’s Dad” in a family group and “Goalkeeper” in a sports chat.

WhatsApp is also expanding its sticker functionality with text stickers. Users can now turn any typed word or phrase into a sticker by entering text into Sticker Search. These custom text stickers can be saved directly to a user’s sticker collection without first sending them in a conversation.

Another new feature is event reminders. When creating an event in a group chat, users can now set personalised reminders for participants, making it easier for invitees to stay informed and remember upcoming plans.

The updates build on WhatsApp’s broader efforts to strengthen group chat functionality. In recent years, the platform has added features such as sharing large files up to 2GB, sending HD photos and videos, enabling screen sharing, hosting voice chats, and more.

With these additions, WhatsApp continues to position group chats as a more flexible and feature-rich space for communication and coordination.
