Slate Auto Partners with Crayola to Bring Bold Colours to Its Electric Pickup Truck
Slate Auto has partnered with Crayola to introduce five iconic colour wraps for its affordable electric pickup truck, giving buyers more customisation options without increasing manufacturing costs.
Slate Auto, the electric vehicle startup backed by Jeff Bezos, has built its business around simplicity and customisation. The company starts with a $24,950 unpainted grey electric pickup that offers an estimated 205 miles of driving range and minimal built-in technology, allowing buyers to personalise the vehicle with wraps, decals, lighting, and a wide range of accessories.
Vehicle wraps play a central role in Slate’s customisation strategy. Instead of traditional paint, the company uses printed vinyl wraps that can be applied to the truck, giving customers access to hundreds of different colours and design combinations. Slate is now expanding those options through a new partnership with Crayola.
The company announced on Thursday that it will introduce five new vehicle wraps inspired by Crayola’s signature colours: Cerulean, Fern, Jersey Tomato, Razzmatazz, and Dandelion. According to Slate, each Crayola-themed wreath costs $1,549.99.
Customers who choose one of the Crayola colour wraps will also receive a matching Crayola-themed key fob and a custom “Slatelet,” a decorative dashboard accessory that snaps into the vehicle’s interior and complements the selected wrap.
Although Slate has collaborated with other creators before, this partnership may be its most recognisable, particularly among younger audiences. The company is also working with New York City artist Max Kolo on additional vehicle wrap designs. For Crayola, however, the collaboration represents a first. Anna Roca, Head of Global Partnerships at Crayola, said it marks the company’s first partnership with an automotive manufacturer.
Slate declined to reveal whether it is working with additional brands to expand its vehicle wrap collection. A company spokesperson said it looks forward to welcoming more makers, creators, and partners over time, suggesting that further collaborations could be introduced.
Given Slate’s strong focus on personalisation, additional design partnerships appear likely as the company continues building its brand around customer customisation.
Slate remains a relatively new player in the electric vehicle market. The startup emerged from stealth in April 2025 and has not yet begun customer deliveries. Last month, the company confirmed the truck’s $24,950 starting price and opened preorders. Buyers can purchase it as a basic two-seat pickup or upgrade it to a five-seat SUV configuration, which starts at $29,950.
