Snapchat rolls out its end-of-year Recaps

Snapchat has launched its 2025 end-of-year Recaps, providing users with a personalised video summary of their Snaps, Stories, and Chats. The company also shared new usage statistics, including a rise in daily call minutes, voice notes, group chat messages, and chat reactions. The launch comes amid user backlash over Snapchat’s plan to limit free Memories storage to 5GB and introduce paid storage tiers next year.

Snapchat announced on Monday that its annual end-of-year Recaps are now rolling out to users, offering a personalised look back at 2025. The Recap appears as a short video highlighting memorable moments across Snaps, Stories, and Chats, showcasing how users connected, communicated, and expressed themselves throughout the year.

Users can view their Recap by opening Snapchat and navigating to the “Memories” section, where they will find a card labelled “Your 2025 Snap Recap.”

The rollout mirrors the trend of major platforms releasing year-end summaries. Companies such as Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, and Duolingo have all published their own annual recaps in recent weeks.

Alongside the launch of its Recaph, Snapchat also shared insights into how its community engaged with the app over the past year. The company says phone calls remain far from obsolete — users talked for nearly 1.7 billion minutes per day on average, an almost 30% increase from last year. In the U.S., Snapchatters sent more than five billion voice notes, representing an early 10% year-over-year growth.

Group chats remain a core part of Snapchat’s social experience. The number of users sending messages to group chats rose by more than 5% in 2025, with some users sending more than 8,880 messages to their most active group chat.

Snapchat also reported that Chat Reactions increased by 44%, with the heart emoji ranking as the most commonly used reaction. Additionally, three million more people used stickers to communicate this year.

The release of the 2025 Recap comes amid ongoing user backlash over Snapchat’s plan to charge for Memories storage next year. Some users have called for a boycott to persuade the company to reconsider.

In September, Snapchat announced that free Memories storage will be capped at 5GB. Users who exceed this limit must subscribe to one of the platform’s new Memories Storage tiers.
