Anthropic Merges Claude Memory Across Chat and Cowork Experiences
Anthropic updates Claude memory to connect chat and Cowork, allowing users to manage saved information across experiences.
Anthropic is updating Claude’s memory system so information learned during chats can now carry over into Claude Cowork, creating a more connected experience across the AI assistant’s features.
The update removes the need for users to repeatedly explain project details when moving from research conversations to taking action in Cowork. Anthropic said users can also view, edit, and delete information that Claude has saved in memory.
Claude memory now connects chat and Cowork
Previously, users could develop ideas or provide context during conversations with Claude, but they often had to repeat that information when starting work in Cowork. The new system is designed to make Claude function more like a single assistant rather than separate tools.
Anthropic said the feature can help with tasks such as preparing documents, manager updates, or event plans because Claude can remember relevant details from earlier conversations. For example, Cowork may already understand information such as event locations, speakers, or participant numbers from previous chats.
Claude will now add topics to memory during conversations instead of waiting until a chat ends to create summaries. Anthropic said this allows memories to update faster and become available across both chat and Cowork while conversations are still active.
Users can control Claude’s saved information
Anthropic said Claude does not automatically store sensitive personal information such as health data, race, ethnicity, religious beliefs, political views, or gender identity.
Users can choose to enable sensitive topics in memory via a setting that allows Claude to retain this information. The app will notify users when a sensitive topic is saved.
However, Anthropic said Claude will not store certain categories of information, including government-issued identification numbers, Social Security numbers, criminal history, immigration status, or information that violates its usage policies.
Memory feature expands across Claude plans
The updated memory feature is enabled by default for Claude Free, Pro, and Max users across web, desktop, and mobile platforms.
Users on iOS and Android will need to update their Claude app to access the latest version of the feature.
