Apple’s foldable iPhone reportedly set for September launch

Apple is reportedly preparing to introduce its first foldable iPhone in September, launching it alongside the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max models, according to a new report by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. This update comes shortly after a separate report from Nikkei Asia raised concerns that the foldable device could face delays due to complications during its engineering testing phase.

According to Gurman's report, while the complexity of the foldable design could limit the number of units available at launch, Apple is still targeting a release window that aligns closely with — or shortly follows — the debut of its standard non-foldable iPhone models.

The report also notes that, with the expected launch still about six months away, the timeline is not yet fully confirmed and could change as development progresses.

The introduction of a foldable iPhone would mark a significant step for Apple, positioning the company to compete more directly with Samsung's existing foldable devices and several China-based smartphone manufacturers that have already established a presence in the foldable market.

Apple's version of the foldable device is expected to bring certain improvements over current offerings. Reports suggest the company has addressed common issues associated with foldable phones, including screen durability and overall build quality. Additionally, Apple is believed to have minimised the visibility of the crease that typically appears when foldable displays are opened, a key concern in earlier designs across the industry.
