Tech company Meta announced on Tuesday that it is introducing two new Ray-Ban smart glasses specifically designed for people who require prescription lenses. Although many users already wear Meta’s smart glasses with customised prescriptions, the company says these newly developed models are designed to support nearly all prescription types and provide a better experience for those who rely on eyewear throughout the day.

The new smart glasses will start at $499 and are set to be available beginning April 14 through optical retailers in the United States and selected international markets. They will come in two distinct styles: Blayzer, which features a rectangular design offered in both standard and large sizes, and Scriber, which features a more rounded frame.

According to Meta, these glasses are the most comfortable designs it has released so far, as they were designed for all-day wear.

The Ray-Ban Meta Blayzer Optics (Gen 2) and Ray-Ban Scriber Optics (Gen 2) models are engineered for a more personalised fit. They include flexible overextension hinges, interchangeable nose pads, and adjustable temple tips that an optician can fine-tune to match an individual’s facial structure.

In addition to these new prescription-focused models, Meta introduced new colourways and lens options for its existing Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta frames. These include the Skyler frame in Shiny Transparent Peach paired with Transitions Brown lenses, the Headliner frame in Matte Transparent Peach with Transitions Grey lenses, and the Wayfarer frame in Shiny Transparent Grey featuring Transitions Sapphire lenses.

For the Oakley Meta Vanguard lineup, Meta will offer several combinations, including Vanguard Black with Prizm Black lenses, Vanguard White with Prizm Rose Gold lenses, Vanguard Black with Prizm Transitions Ember lenses, HSTN Black with Prizm Dark Golf lenses, and HSTN Light Curry with Clear-to-Brown Transitions lenses.

Meta is also expanding the capabilities of its smart glasses with new AI-powered features. The company says it is simplifying nutrition tracking by allowing users to log meals hands-free using voice commands or by capturing a quick photo. Meta AI can then extract key nutritional information and add it to a food log. Over time, this log is designed to provide personalised insights to help users make more informed dietary choices.

Additionally, Meta is rolling out hands-free WhatsApp summaries and recall as part of its Early Access Program. With this feature, users can ask questions such as “Hey Meta, catch me up on my messages” to receive summaries of group chats, or request specific details like “What did Jamie suggest for dinner?” Meta states that these interactions are processed directly on-device and are protected with end-to-end encryption to maintain user privacy.

Another feature, Neural Handwriting on Meta Ray-Ban Display, is expected to become available to all users in the coming weeks. This functionality allows users to write messages by tracing letters with their finger on any surface, enabling silent and discreet replies. It is compatible with platforms such as Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger, and standard messaging apps on both Android and iOS devices.
