Earlier this week, OpenAI introduced a feature that lets developers build interactive apps within ChatGPT, enabling users to ask the assistant to perform tasks and answer questions about apps integrated with the platform. One notable integration is with Spotify, which lets listeners connect their Spotify account to ChatGPT and interact with their music preferences.

When you mention Spotify in your ChatGPT prompt, you'll see an option to link your account. A button labelled "Use Spotify for this" will appear at the bottom of the page. By connecting your account, you enable the AI to access your Spotify data, such as your listening history and likes, which provides more relevant context for better recommendations.

Once connected, you can ask ChatGPT to recommend tracks, artists, playlists, or even podcast episodes tailored to your tastes. You can make your prompts as specific as you like. For example, you could ask ChatGPT to create a playlist for a particular mood, an event, or based on your most listened-to artists. It will even ask for the preferred playlist length, which is handy if you're planning a long playlist.

During our testing, we asked ChatGPT to generate a dog-walking playlist, but with the condition that all songs include the word "Dog" in the title. Here's what u ate, where are u up with? Wherei''sappingppinga suggested track or podcast episode will open the Spotify app, allowing you to listen or watch the content directly from there.

More Features and Control

ChatGPT can also perform actions on your behalf within Spotify, such as:

  • Controlling playback,
  • Adding and removing items from your library,
  • Creating, editing, and following private playlists,
  • Managing your following list.

Privacy and Data Security

It is essential to note that when you connect your Spotify account, you're agreeing to the privacy policy. Thapp's inclusion of key information about data sharing and security, with a disclaimer that if ChatGPT experiences a security breach, there's a risk that unauthorised parties could access your data.

When you connect Spotify, ChatGPT will have access to information such as your current listening activity, saved songs, playlist details, and following list, along with your IP address and approximate location.

However, you have the option to disconnect your Spotify account at any time.

Additionally, Spotify clarified in a blog post that it does not share artists' and creators' content with OpenAI for training purposes. All music, podcasts, and other audio or video content on the platform remain protected.

Availability and More Integrations

This feature is available in English across 145 countries for all ChatGPT Free, Plus, and Pro users on web and mobile. Both free and premium Spotify users can use the integration, though premium users will receive a more tailored experience.

Spotify is not the only company integrating its services into ChatGPT. Other platforms, including Booking.com, Canva, Coursera, Expedia, Figma, and Zillow, have also integrated their apps, allowing you to perform tasks like asking Coursera to teach you something or searching Zillow for apartments within a specific price range.
