Bluesky Expands Video Upload Limit to 10 Minutes

Social network Bluesky has increased its video upload limit, allowing users to post videos up to 10 minutes long as the platform expands its video-sharing capabilities.

The company announced the update on Tuesday, increasing the previous video limit from three minutes. Bluesky also said users can now upload files up to 300MB, while video upload speeds have improved by two to three times.

The longer video limit puts Bluesky closer to other major social platforms that have increased their focus on video content. The new limit matches TikTok’s 10-minute video length for recordings made directly through its app.

The update also applies to other applications built on the AT Protocol that powers Bluesky. Apps including Bluescreen, Reelo, and Skylight can now support longer video uploads through the same underlying technology.

Social platforms have continued to add video features as they compete for creators' attention and user engagement. Meta-owned Threads supports videos up to five minutes, while X allows free users to upload videos up to 140 seconds.

Paid X subscribers can upload much longer videos, including content lasting several hours and files up to 16GB. The platform has also introduced video editing tools to encourage users to create and share original content.

Bluesky looks to increase user activity

The video update comes as Bluesky works to expand activity on its platform. According to Similarweb data cited in the report, the social network’s active user base declined more than 25% year over year as of July.

By supporting longer videos, larger uploads, and faster processing, Bluesky is aiming to give users more options for sharing content while competing with established social media platforms.
