Fitbit Founders Launch Luffu Link LTE Health and Safety Band

Fitbit co-founders James Park and Eric Friedman have launched Luffu Link, a new LTE-enabled wearable designed to help families monitor health, safety, and daily well-being without requiring a smartphone nearby.

The screenless health and safety band combines continuous health sensing, voice-based logging, location awareness, and emergency communication features into a single device. Luffu Link is available for pre-order at $250 and is expected to begin shipping in early 2027. The wearable will be offered in halo gold, onyx black, and sterling blue.

Luffu Link focuses on family health support

The device is part of Luffu’s broader effort to build an intelligent family care system. The company previously introduced its health-monitoring app, which uses AI tools to organise family health information, learn daily patterns, and identify changes that may require attention.

Park and Friedman created Luffu after their own experiences supporting family members and ageing parents. The founders said they wanted to build technology that helps caregivers understand a loved one’s health without creating a feeling of constant monitoring.

In an interview, Park said that family caregivers often spend significant time managing health-related responsibilities, while existing tools are fragmented across platforms.

Wearable tracks health patterns and provides alerts

Luffu Link allows users to record updates through voice, including information about medications, symptoms, meals, mood, and reminders. The Luffu app organises those updates and adds them to a broader family health context.

The wearable also tracks health and wellness signals, including activity levels, sleep, resting heart rate, calories burned, heart rate variability, and breathing rate. The company says the device is designed to identify changes in personal patterns over time and provide relevant insights or alerts.

Rather than presenting users with another dashboard of health charts, Luffu says the system is focused on answering practical questions about what changed, whether it matters, and whether someone else needs to know.

LTE connectivity adds safety features without a phone

Luffu Link includes built-in GPS and LTE connectivity, allowing trusted contacts to receive location updates and help requests without the wearer needing a separate smartphone or carrier plan.

Users can quickly check in with family members by double-pressing the device button. In an emergency, a wearer can send a voice message describing what happened, along with location details, battery status, and selected health data, such as recent activity and heart rate.

The company positions Link differently from traditional fitness trackers by focusing on everyday health awareness and family connection rather than only individual performance tracking.

Park said the screenless design was intentional, to create a wearable that stays in the background during daily life. The company designed the device with inspiration from jewellery rather than traditional fitness bands or emergency alert products.

Luffu also indicated that it is developing a home device that will expand its family care platform beyond the wrist. The company expects Luffu Link to have a retail price of $300 after the current pre-order period.
