Microsoft Unveils Nvidia RTX Spark AI PCs With New Windows 11 Agent Security
Microsoft unveils Nvidia RTX Spark-powered Surface Laptop Ultra and Dev Box, bringing local AI processing, new Windows 11 agent security, and premium pricing.
Microsoft has unveiled two Nvidia RTX Spark-powered computers, the Surface Laptop Ultra starting at $2,600 and the Surface RTX Spark Dev Box at $6,000. The announcement also introduced Windows 11 security features designed to isolate AI agents.
Both systems support running AI models directly on the device, using Nvidia hardware developed through a partnership announced in June.
Surface Laptop Ultra Starts at $2,600
The new Surface Laptop Ultra comes in two base configurations, starting at $2,600 and $3,700. Memory and storage upgrades raise the price to $5,900, although Microsoft said its highest-end configuration was already out of stock.
Microsoft says the laptop can also handle content creation, video processing and gaming. Its hardware includes unified memory and enhanced cooling to support demanding workloads.
Microsoft Introduces $6,000 RTX Spark Dev Box
The Surface RTX Spark Dev Box is a compact workstation equipped with Visual Studio Code, GitHub Copilot CLI, Windows Subsystem for Linux and PowerShell 7. It provides an environment for building, testing and running AI applications without cloud inference fees for locally executed models.
Windows 11 Adds Execution Containers for AI Agents
Microsoft also introduced Execution Containers, a Windows 11 feature that isolates AI agents while they perform tasks. The company says it will simplify sandboxing and become available to Windows 11 users beyond the new Surface devices.
Speaking at the San Francisco event, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said effective AI applications require more than individual models. He emphasised coordinating models with context, memory and the ability to take actions, capabilities Microsoft plans to support across its own and third-party applications.
Microsoft Offers Up to $1,000 for MacBook Pro Trade-Ins
Microsoft is offering up to $1,000 toward a Surface Laptop Ultra through its trade-in program for eligible MacBook Pro devices. The incentive targets Apple’s established presence among programmers and AI enthusiasts, particularly in Silicon Valley.
Dell Announces $3,800 RTX Spark Laptop
Dell also disclosed pricing for its previously announced XPS 16 Creator Edition, which uses Nvidia’s RTX Spark platform. Starting at $3,800, the laptop is available for preorder through Best Buy, with deliveries expected later in October.
Microsoft’s new hardware expands the premium Windows PC lineup, while Execution Containers introduces agent isolation capabilities for the broader Windows 11 platform.
