Google Photos Introduces AI-Powered Video Remix Feature for Creative Video Editing
Google Photos has launched Video Remix, a new AI-powered feature that transforms videos with cinematic effects, artistic styles, relighting, and background changes in just a few taps.
Google has announced a new Video Remix feature for Google Photos that can quickly edit and transform videos using artificial intelligence. Unveiled on Wednesday, the feature is powered by Gemini Omni, Google’s recently introduced AI model, which the company says can create content from virtually any input.
The release marks another step in Google’s effort to bring more generative AI capabilities into its consumer applications as it competes with rivals including Apple, OpenAI, and Adobe. By integrating AI-driven video editing directly into Google Photos, the company aims to let users enhance videos with just a few taps, rather than relying on professional editing software, while also encouraging them to stay within Google’s ecosystem.
Video Remix is available in Google Photos via the Create tab and offers several AI-powered editing options. Users can apply cinematic relighting to brighten dark footage, replace plain backgrounds with entirely different scenes, or transform videos using artistic effects such as watercolour, raw sketchbook, and oil painting styles.
For instance, users can modify a video to make it appear as though it was recorded in a greenhouse, apply warm, morning-style lighting to existing footage, or convert an ordinary video into a watercolour-inspired visual using AI-generated effects.
In a blog post announcing the feature, Google said that producing high-quality video clips should not require professional editing expertise or hours of manual work. The company explained that Video Remix allows users to transform everyday videos into content ready for sharing through just a few simple taps.
The rollout of Video Remix begins today for eligible Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra subscribers in several countries, including the United States, Argentina, Bangladesh, Brazil, Colombia, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, Pakistan, the Philippines, South Korea, and Turkey.
The addition of Video Remix follows a series of recent AI enhancements introduced to Google Photos. The application recently gained new AI-powered touch-up tools that allow users to make subtle improvements to portraits and selfies by removing blemishes, refining skin texture, brightening eyes, and whitening teeth. Google has also introduced another AI feature that turns photographs of clothing into a digital wardrobe, enabling users to create outfit combinations and virtually try on different clothing styles.
