Instinct and Meta’s Muse AI Agents Add Voice Calling Features

AI assistant startups Instinct and Meta’s Muse are adding phone-calling capabilities as competition grows among consumer AI agents designed to complete tasks on users’ behalf.

Instinct, a San Francisco-based AI agent startup, has introduced Instinct Concierge. This feature allows its assistant to make calls for tasks such as restaurant bookings, joining cancellation lists, and resolving customer service issues. The company is rolling out the feature to selected users before a wider release.

AI agents move beyond text conversations

Instinct founder Noah Shinn announced the calling capability through posts on X, showing how the feature can handle real-world tasks that traditionally require users to make phone calls themselves.

Meta’s Muse AI assistant has also gained the ability to place calls to U.S. businesses. The company said the feature will initially roll out to users who ask Muse to make a call, letting them access new capabilities early.

Adding calling features puts Instinct and Muse alongside other AI assistants that have promoted phone-based task completion as a major capability.

Competition grows among AI assistant platforms

Instinct has attracted significant investor interest, with reports of a potential $10 billion valuation as demand grows for AI agents that can complete tasks across different services.

The company has also expanded its platform with features such as email addresses for account management and tools that allow assistants to communicate with trusted networks of other users.

Shinn also shared updates about Instinct’s new capabilities through another X post, highlighting the company’s broader efforts to make AI agents more useful for everyday tasks.

Meta’s Muse has also gained early attention, with Sensor Tower reporting strong initial download numbers after launch. As AI assistants continue adding calling, email management, and automation features, companies are competing to build systems that can take action rather than only answer questions.
