At a press conference held at the White House on Wednesday, First Lady Melania Trump appeared alongside a humanoid robot created by Figure AI. The pair walked together down a red carpet before the robot delivered a short message, stating: "I am grateful to be part of this historic movement to empower children with technology and education." Shortly after speaking, the robot exited the room.

The demonstration was part of a newly introduced initiative led by the first lady, the Fostering the Future Together global summit. The event brought together international leaders to explore how educational technology — particularly artificial intelligence — could be used to support and enhance learning for children worldwide.

The presentation raised broader questions about the future of education, including the potential role of advanced robotics in teaching. During her remarks, Melania Trump encouraged attendees to envision a scenario in which humanoid robots could function as educators, providing personalised instruction to students.

She described a hypothetical AI-driven teacher named "Plato," capable of delivering instant access to a wide range of subjects, including literature, science, art, philosophy, mathematics, and history. According to her remarks, such a system could offer adaptive learning tailored to individual students, remain consistently available and responsive to their needs, and help foster critical thinking and independent reasoning. The event also coincided with the administration's announcement of a separate technology council, which includes prominent figures from Silicon Valley. Meanwhile, Figure AI acknowledged its participation in the event by sharing a public message on its social media account.

While the concept of humanoid robots replacing traditional educators remains speculative, interest in AI-driven learning models has been increasing within the technology sector. Over the past year, initiatives such as Alpha School have gained visibility for their use of artificial intelligence to accelerate student learning.

The administration has expressed support for such experimental approaches while continuing to challenge existing public education systems. Linda E. McMahon recently visited an Alpha School campus and highlighted the potential benefits of integrating AI into education, describing it as an opportunity better to prepare students for a rapidly evolving, technology-focused workforce.

Melania Trump's event further underscored the administration's perspective on the growing influence of the private sector in shaping the future of education. She also acknowledged the involvement of leading American technology companies, noting their role in advancing educational innovation and in developing new AI-powered learning models.
