Google on Tuesday announced three new features powered by its AI system Gemini for Google TV, aimed at enhancing how users interact with content. These updates include AI-driven visual responses, deeper topic exploration tools, and narrated sports summaries designed to keep viewers informed in real time.

One of the most notable additions is the introduction of visual responses. With this feature, users can ask questions such as the current score of a game — for example, a Warriors matchup — and instantly receive live scorecards and details on where to watch. The system also extends beyond sports; if a user searches for something like a recipe, Gemini will provide not only text-based guidance but also relevant video tutorials to enhance the experience.

Another key feature is the “deep dive” functionality, which allows users to explore topics in greater detail. First showcased at CES 2026, this feature delivers narrated, visually rich explanations on a wide range of subjects, including health, technology, and economics. For instance, users can ask questions such as “What are the effects of cold plunging?” and receive a structured breakdown. These deep dives can be accessed by selecting the “Dive deeper” option in responses or by navigating to the Gemini tab on the home screen and choosing the “Learn” section.

For sports enthusiasts, Google has introduced “sports briefs,” a feature that provides quick, narrated summaries of ongoing events. This allows users to stay updated on leagues like the NBA, NHL, and MLB without needing to watch full games. The feature highlights key moments and updates, making it easier to follow multiple matches efficiently. This builds on the earlier launch of “news briefs,” which offered similar summaries for current events.

The rollout of these Gemini-powered features has begun in the United States and Canada, with plans to expand to regions such as Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom later this spring. Additional countries are expected to follow as the feature set matures.

Gemini first became available on Google TV in September 2025, initially limited to select TCL devices. Since then, it has expanded to a wider range of hardware and gained new capabilities. These include controlling TV settings through natural language commands — such as adjusting brightness or fixing audio issues — as well as searching through personal media libraries like Google Photos using voice input. Users can also apply AI-generated styles and effects to their content, further enhancing personalisation.

With these updates, Google is continuing to integrate AI more deeply into the TV experience, aiming to make content discovery, learning, and real-time updates more seamless and interactive for users.
