Google has launched Universal Cart in the United States, allowing shoppers to save products from multiple retailers in one place through Google Search and the Gemini app. The tool tracks selected items, making it easier to return to potential purchases without repeating searches or rebuilding shopping lists.

First previewed at Google I/O in May, Universal Cart is part of Google’s broader effort to bring AI-powered assistance into online shopping. The feature combines product discovery, price monitoring, and checkout tools in a centralised experience.

Universal Cart Adds Price Alerts and Shopping Assistance

According to Google’s official announcement, Universal Cart can notify users when saved products drop in price or return to stock. It also identifies available promotional codes and considers credit card benefits when suggesting payment options.

Shoppers can collect items from different retailers while browsing Search or Gemini, and their selections remain available when they return. The system aims to reduce the inconvenience of managing separate carts and tracking products across multiple websites.

Google Expands AI-Powered Checkout

Google supports checkout through the Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP), an open standard introduced earlier in 2026 to help AI assistants communicate with retailers and payment services. The framework supports different stages of shopping, including completing purchases through participating merchants.

Universal Cart joins Google’s existing AI shopping features, including conversational product discovery through Search’s AI Mode. The company also offers Let Google Call, which uses AI to contact nearby stores and check product availability on a shopper’s behalf.

Google faces increasing competition from Amazon, OpenAI and other companies developing AI-powered commerce tools. Universal Cart focuses on a practical challenge: keeping products, prices and purchase options organised as shoppers move between services.

The feature is now available to U.S. users. Its broader value will depend on retailer participation, reliable price notifications and how smoothly customers can complete purchases without leaving Google’s shopping experience.
