Meta has introduced an AI-powered feature called Your Algorithm on Facebook, letting users influence what appears in their Feed and Reels with natural-language instructions. Instead of relying entirely on automated recommendations, people can now tell Facebook which topics they want to see more or less frequently.

According to Meta’s announcement, the feature allows users to adjust their content preferences directly, with recommendations responding in real time. The company says the goal is to make Facebook’s ranking systems more responsive to individual interests.

How Facebook’s Your Algorithm Feature Works

Users can access Your Algorithm through the three-dot menu on Facebook posts, where they can add or manage topics that influence their recommendations. The updated menu also includes Interested and Not interested options to give feedback on individual posts.

Facebook may ask follow-up questions after users select these options, allowing them to explain what they liked or disliked. For example, someone could request more content about a particular hobby or fewer recommendations related to an unwanted topic.

Meta says the system uses large language models to interpret these instructions alongside existing engagement signals, including likes, comments and viewing activity. This lets recommendations change within the same session rather than relying exclusively on previously observed behaviour.

Meta Expands AI-Powered Feed Personalisation

The Facebook launch follows similar personalisation features introduced across Meta’s other platforms. Instagram launched Your Algorithm for Reels in December 2025, then expanded customisation to Feed and Explore in June 2026.

Threads has also introduced Dear Algo, a feature that lets users influence recommended content through direct instructions. Together, these changes give users more ways to communicate their preferences while Meta continues using automated systems to rank and recommend posts.

For Facebook users, the main change is greater control over recommendations without navigating multiple settings or waiting for the algorithm to infer their interests. The platform’s ranking system remains automated, but users can now provide more specific guidance about the content they want to see.
