Nintendo’s September 2026 Direct presentations delivered major announcements for Nintendo Switch 2, including the release date for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake, anniversary-themed hardware, and new Metroid and Kirby games. The company held two consecutive showcases on September 8 and 9, combining its celebration of Zelda’s 40th anniversary with a broader preview of upcoming releases.

The events provided a clearer picture of Nintendo’s plans for late 2026 and early 2027, with several announcements aimed at longtime fans and newcomers to the Switch 2 platform.

Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake Arrives November 5

The biggest announcement came during the September 8 Zelda anniversary presentation. Nintendo confirmed that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time will launch for Nintendo Switch 2 on November 5, 2026, bringing the acclaimed Nintendo 64 adventure back with extensively redesigned visuals and modernised gameplay.

The remake features fully voiced cutscenes, expanded character dialogue, orchestral music, improved camera controls, and updated movement mechanics. Players can also interact with the game’s musical system by humming familiar ocarina melodies into the Switch 2’s built-in microphone.

Series producer Eiji Aonuma presented the first gameplay footage during the official anniversary presentation. Nintendo also introduced additional features through Zelda Notes, including adventure tracking, location-based challenges, and a virtual ocarina.

Nintendo Reveals Special Zelda 40th Anniversary Switch 2

Nintendo also unveiled a limited-edition Switch 2 console celebrating four decades of The Legend of Zelda. The anniversary system features distinctive Triforce-inspired detailing and will launch on October 29, 2026, alongside matching accessories, including a Pro Controller and carrying case.

The celebration extends beyond hardware. Nintendo announced a worldwide Zelda concert series beginning in 2027, new amiibo figures featuring Young Link and Young Zelda, and additional merchandise. The company also confirmed that its live-action The Legend of Zelda movie will reach theatres worldwide on April 30, 2027.

Metroid Ravenous and Kirby Lead the September 9 Direct

The following day’s Nintendo Direct shifted attention toward upcoming Switch 2 games. Nintendo revealed Metroid Ravenous, a new 2D action-adventure starring Samus Aran, scheduled for January 28, 2027. The game will also come in a special edition with exclusive packaging and a collectable amiibo.

Another major reveal was Kirby and the World Beyond, a new 3D adventure expected in spring 2027. Players will explore expansive environments and use Kirby’s familiar Copy Abilities to overcome challenges. Its release will coincide with the Kirby franchise’s 35th anniversary.

Nintendo’s September 9 announcement also included Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity – Definitive Edition, Pikmin 4 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Dandori Academy, and additional information about Nintendo Switch Sports Resort.

Third-party announcements included Final Fantasy VII Revelation, Monster Hunter Wilds, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, and upcoming Resident Evil releases, further expanding the Switch 2 software lineup.

What Nintendo’s Announcements Mean for Switch 2

The two presentations highlighted Nintendo’s strategy of combining established franchises with new experiences. Ocarina of Time provides a major release for the 2026 holiday season, while Metroid Ravenous and Kirby and the World Beyond extend the lineup into 2027.

With anniversary hardware, exclusive games, and more third-party support, Nintendo is building a broader catalogue for Switch 2. The September announcements also give players more concrete release dates to consider as the console enters another important holiday shopping period.
