Perplexity announced that its Personal Computer feature, the company's response to OpenClaw and other local AI agent platforms, is now available to all Mac users through its desktop application. A

Personal Computer is an extension of Perplexity's broader AI-powered digital worker system, known as Perplexity Computer. While Perplexity Computer focuses on cloud-based workflows, Personal Computer is designed to bring those AI capabilities directly onto a user's personal device. The system allows AI agents to access local files, applications, web tools, and connected services to complete more personalised, multi-step tasks throughout a user's workflow.

Perplexity describes the product as something that" takes Computer out of the cloud-only world and onto the device where most of your real work already takes place."

The launch comes as interest in local AI agents continues to grow, driven by the popularity of OpenClaw and similar systems that can perform tasks on users' behalf. However, some of those earlier AI agent tools raised concerns around security and elevated system permissions. Perplexity says Personal Computer is designed to offer a safer and more controlled environment for AI-powered computing.

The feature was originally introduced last month, but at the time, it was limited to Perplexity Max subscribers and required users to join a waitlist. With Thursday's announcement, the company confirmed that any Mac user can now download and use the new Perplexity Mac app. However, using a Personal Computer still requires either a Pro or a Max subscription.

At launch, Personal Computer supports access to local files, native Mac applications, and web-based tasks. It can also coordinate workflows across tools and files, connect with more than 400 integrations, and use personal context to complete tasks inside what Perplexity describes as a secure development environment hosted on its servers.

When paired with Perplexity's Per'-powered Comet browser, the software can also operate web-based tools without requiring dedicated connectors.

Perplexity says the feature is designed to help users manage more advanced workflows involving spreadsheets, documents, notes, and multi-app projects. Since the AI agents can work across applications, they can compare files from different programs or collect notes from one app to generate drafts in another.

The company also said the Personal Computer is built to run continuously on always-on devices such as a Mac Mini. Users can remotely access and manage tasks on iPhone, including approving requests and starting workflows. As part of the rollout, Perplexity confirmed that its older Mac app will be phased out over the coming weeks to focus entirely on the new Personal Computer experience.

The new Perplexity Mac app is currently available only as a direct download and is not yet listed on Apple's App Store.
