Google Gemini App Surpasses 1 Billion Monthly Active Users
Google’s Gemini app has surpassed 1 billion monthly active users, becoming one of the company’s fastest-growing products as AI adoption accelerates.
Google’s Gemini app has surpassed 1 billion monthly active users, marking a major milestone for the company’s push to make its artificial intelligence assistant a mainstream consumer product.
CEO Sundar Pichai announced the milestone Tuesday, saying Gemini has become one of Google’s fastest-growing products. It is the 14th Google product to reach 1 billion monthly active users.
Google Gemini reaches 1 billion monthly users
The milestone puts Gemini alongsideOpenAI’ss ChatGPT in terms of reported monthly reach. ChatGPT crossed 1 billion monthly active users in June, according to the source reporting.
Gemini’s growth has accelerated quickly. During Google’s second-quarter 2026 earnings call, the company reported more than 950 million monthly active users for the app and said daily active usage had tripled over the previous year.
The latest figure refers specifically to the Gemini app rather than people accessing Google’s AI through its other products. Google has integrated Gemini technology across services including Search, Workspace and Android.
AI Mode in Google Search has separately surpassed 1 billion monthly active users globally, according to the company.
Voice and image generation drive Gemini usage
Google also disclosed more information about how people interact with Gemini. The company said 63% of Gemini users communicate directly with the assistant through its voice feature.
Gemini is also generating more than 150 million images each day, according to Google. The app has expanded beyondGoogle’ss Android ecosystem as well, reaching more than 100 million active users on iOS.
Google continues to introduce new models and capabilities across the Gemini platform. Recent additions include Gemini 3.5 Flash, which the company says is designed to improve coding and autonomous AI-agent tasks.
Google expands Gemini across its products
The rapid growth reflectsGoogle’ss broader strategy of making Gemini available across both its existing services and dedicated AI products. The company has increasingly embedded the assistant into products used by consumers and businesses while continuing to develop the standalone Gemini experience.
The 1 billion-user announcement also comes ahead of Google’s Made by Google event, where the company is expected to introduce additional Gemini-powered capabilities across its Pixel devices.
With Gemini crossing the billion-user threshold shortly after ChatGPT, Google and OpenAI now both operate consumer AI assistants with reported monthly audiences exceeding 1 billion users.
