Google introduced the Fitbit Edge, a $179.99 fitness tracker that pairs a slim wristband with an OLED display and Gemini-powered health coaching. Positioned between the screenless Fitbit Air and the more advanced Pixel Watch, the device offers fitness tracking alongside everyday features such as notifications, Google Maps, weather updates and music controls.

According to Google’s official announcement, the Fitbit Edge is available for preorder ahead of its October 27 retail release. The tracker is designed for users who want more functionality than a basic fitness band without moving to a full smartwatch.

Fitbit Edge Adds Gemini Health Coaching and Smarter Tracking

The Fitbit Edge supports Google Health Coach, a Gemini-powered assistant that uses fitness, health and medical information to create personalised workout plans and weekly routines. The coaching system can adjust recommendations around a user’s schedule, although access requires a separate Google Health Premium subscription.

Google has also included Health Guardian, which monitors changes in health measurements over time, including trends associated with blood pressure and insulin resistance. These features are intended to provide general wellness information, not medical diagnoses, and availability varies by region.

For exercise tracking, the wearable can automatically recognise and record up to 100 activities, including walking, running and cycling. It also supports more than 50 exercise modes, with on-screen guidance that can suggest when users should increase their effort or take a break.

Google claims the built-in GPS delivers up to 40% more accurate tracking than earlier Fitbit trackers. The company also says sleep-stage detection has improved by 15%, giving the device more accurate sleep information and personalised coaching recommendations.

OLED Display, Seven-Day Battery and Pricing

The Fitbit Edge features a Hybrid OLED screen for viewing health statistics and everyday information without reaching for a phone. Its lightweight design includes a recycled aluminium housing, interchangeable bands, and a physical side button to control workouts.

Google rates battery life at up to seven days on a single charge, depending on usage and enabled features. The tracker also supports fast charging and is water-resistantto 50 meters.

The standard Fitbit Edge costs $179.99 and comes in four colours: Obsidian, Fog, Olive and Canyon. Google is also offering a Stephen Curry Special Edition for $219.99, featuring a distinctive design developed with the basketball star.

Preorders are open through the Google Store and participating retailers, with general availability beginning October 27. Google is including three months of Google Health Premium with purchases, giving buyers access to its AI-powered coaching features before a paid subscription is required.
