A recent 7-Eleven data breach exposed the personal information of more than 185,000 individuals. Learn what data was affected, how the incident happened, and the latest cybersecurity concerns surrounding the breach.
A data breach involving 7-Eleven has exposed the personal information of more than 185,000 individuals, according to Have I Been Pwned.
The breach, first reported in April, included names, dates of birth, home addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses. Reports filed with state authorities also indicated that some Social Security numbers and driver’s license details were compromised.
Have I Been Pwned said the incident was tied to a hack-and-extortion attack allegedly carried out by the cybercrime group ShinyHunters, which threatened to release the stolen data publicly if payment demands were not met.
According to filings with the Maine Attorney General’s office, hackers gained access to an internal server containing franchisee-related documents. Jim Kastle confirmed the unauthorised access in the disclosure.
The incident highlights the ongoing rise in cyberattacks targeting major companies and the growing risks posed by large-scale data breaches.
