Meta is rolling out Pocket, an experimental AI-powered game creation app, to users across the United States after initially testing it in Brazil.

Pocket lets users create small interactive experiences, which Meta calls “gizmos,” simply by describing what they want. The resulting games and experiments appear in a scrollable social feed where other users can play, save, repost or remix them.

Pocket turns AI prompts into interactive games

Gizmos can respond to touch and the movement of a phone, play sound effects and incorporate music. Creators can also use photos from their camera roll or grant a gizmo access to the phone’s camera, allowing experiences to become more personalised.

The app is built around technology and talent Meta gained through its deal with the team behind the earlier Gizmo platform. Business Insider reported earlier this year that former Snapchat engineers behind Gizmo were joining Meta Superintelligence Labs.

Pocket’s App Store listing describes it as a creative platform for making and sharing gizmos. Users can refine creations through an editor before publishing them to a profile, while the social layer includes likes, comments, playlists, saves, remixes and reposts.

Meta is experimenting with more standalone AI apps

Pocket is another part of Meta’s effort to make generative AI creation tools accessible to mainstream users. The company has already introduced AI image creation through Meta AI and experimented with AI-generated video through Vibes.

Meta has also been releasing more standalone apps and experiments. CEO Mark Zuckerberg said during the company’s July earnings call that AI-assisted software development is making it easier for Meta to build and test new products more quickly.

He pointed to releases including Instagram Instants, the standalone Groups app Forum and the Marketplace-focused Seller app, while saying Meta expects to experiment with more ideas and use its recommendation systems to help them reach users.

The original Gizmo app is shutting down

As Pocket expands, the original Gizmo product is being retired. The Gizmo team announced the transition on X, directing attention toward Meta’s new Pocket experience.

Pocket shows how Meta is applying vibe coding beyond conventional software development. Instead of requiring programming knowledge, the applets let users describe an interactive idea in natural language and quickly turn it into something others can play, remix,x and share.
