Spotify Introduces Podcast Clips to Save and Share Favorite Moments
Spotify has launched Podcast Clips, allowing users to save, trim, and share memorable podcast moments directly from episodes. The new feature is rolling out globally for Free and Premium mobile users.
Spotify is making it simpler for listeners to capture and share memorable moments from their favourite podcasts with the introduction of a new feature called Podcast Clips, which begins rolling out globally on Wednesday.
The new tool adds a scissors icon to the “Now Playing” screen within the Spotify app. By tapping the icon, users can select a specific portion of a podcast episode, trim the audio to highlight the moment they want, and create a shareable clip to send to friends, colleagues, or followers on social media.
After choosing a segment, listeners can preview the clip before sharing it. Once finalised, Spotify offers several sharing options, including links to the full episode, a chapter, a timestamped section, or the newly created podcast clip itself.
The feature arrives at a time when podcasts are becoming increasingly important sources of news and industry announcements. In recent years, many high-profile technology and AI executives have favoured podcast appearances over traditional media interviews, using long-form conversations to discuss products, strategies, and company developments. As a result, important news often emerges from podcast episodes that can run for hours, making it difficult for audiences to keep up with every discussion.
By allowing users to isolate and distribute specific highlights, Spotify aims to make key insights and noteworthy moments easier to discover and share without requiring listeners to stream entire episodes.
The company noted that interest in podcast discovery tools has already been growing. Earlier this year, Spotify introduced Chapters, a feature that allows listeners to save longer sections of podcast episodes. According to Spotify, those chapter segments are now being saved and added to playlists more than two million times every month.
Beyond convenience for listeners, Podcast Clips could also become a valuable promotional tool for creators and publishers. Sharing engaging moments from an episode may help attract new listeners and encourage them to explore the complete show.
All clips created through the feature will be stored in a user’s Spotify Library, making it easy to revisit them later or add them to podcast playlists for future listening.
Spotify said the feature is rolling out worldwide for both free and Premium users on mobile devices, with support gradually expanding across more podcast shows over time.
