Xbox Mythic Achievements Give Full Game Completion a New Milestone
Xbox Mythic Achievements recognise players who complete all original achievements in a game, with new profile features and progress tracking.
Xbox is introducing Mythic Achievements, a new way to recognise players who fully complete a game’s original achievement set. The feature gives completed games a distinct status on Xbox profiles while adding new tools for tracking progress toward full completion.
Microsoft is initially making Mythic Achievements available to Xbox Insiders. According to Xbox’s official announcement, the feature focuses on completing a game’s original achievements rather than every achievement that may be added later.
How Mythic Achievements Work
A player earns a Mythic Achievement after completing all of a game’s original achievements. Achievements added later through downloadable content or updates are not required for Mythic status.
That distinction means a game can receive additional achievements after a player reaches Mythic status without losing it. Microsoft says the Mythic designation remains once earned.
Existing Completed Games Can Receive Mythic Status
The feature also applies to eligible games that players completed before Mythic Achievements were introduced. Microsoft says existing achievement history is carried over, including eligible Xbox 360 titles.
This means players may find Mythic Achievements already attached to games they previously completed. Players don’t need to replay those games just because the new feature has been introduced.
The change builds on Microsoft’s earlier work to make completed games easier to identify. In April, Xbox introduced new achievement presentation and filtering features, including a way to highlight games for which players had earned all available Gamerscore.
A New Gaming Tab for Xbox Profiles
Microsoft is also adding a Gaming tab to Xbox profiles. The section brings achievements, Gamerscore milestones and completed games into a more centralised view.
Mythic Achievements receive a distinct frame in the achievement history, making completed games easier to identify. Players can also view friends’ Gaming tabs and see which games they have taken to Mythic status.
Progress Toward Mythic Is Easier to Track
Xbox is adding a progress bar to the achievement list for games that have not yet reached Mythic status. The bar shows how close a player is to completing the original achievement set.
Players can also focus specifically on the original achievements that remain unfinished. Later-introduced achievements are labelled as add-ons, making it clearer which achievements count toward Mythic status.
Microsoft says similar progress information will appear elsewhere in the Xbox interface, including the Guide and Achievement details. This gives players more than one way to check what remains before reaching full completion.
Mythic Achievements Put More Focus on Completion
Xbox Achievements have traditionally provided Gamerscore and individual milestones for completing specific tasks within games. Mythic Achievements add another layer by giving a game’s original achievement set its own visible designation when it reaches Mythic status.
The system is particularly relevant to players who already track their achievement history closely. Instead of relying only on completion percentages or total Gamerscore, they can now see which games have reached Mythic status directly from their profile.
New Games Will Use the System
The feature is already being incorporated into upcoming Xbox releases. Xbox’s published achievement list for Gears of War: E-Day confirms that completing all 54 achievements will earn players a Mythic Achievement.
That provides an early example of how the system will work with new releases. Players can see the complete achievement set and understand that reaching the full original set will produce the additional Mythic milestone.
Mythic Is Not the Same as Completing Every Add-On
The separation between original achievements and later additions is one of the most important parts of the system. Games with years of downloadable content can accumulate additional achievements long after their original release.
Under Microsoft’s approach, those additions do not turn an already-earned Mythic Achievement into an unfinished milestone. A player who completes the original achievement set can retain Mythic status even if the game’s achievement list grows later.
Availability Starts With Xbox Insiders
Mythic Achievements are currently being tested through the Xbox Insider program rather than being immediately available to every Xbox player. Microsoft says the feature is being introduced as an early look for Insiders while the company gathers feedback.
Players interested in participating can use the Xbox Insider Hub to access information about the Insider program and its available previews.
Final Verdict
Mythic Achievements give Xbox full game completion a distinct place within the achievement system. The feature recognises completion of a game’s original achievements, carries eligible historical completions forward and separates later add-on achievements from the core requirement.
The new Gaming tab and progress indicators also make achievement history easier to navigate. For players who care about completing games in full, Mythic provides a clearer milestone without requiring them to chase every piece of downloadable content released afterwards.
The feature is still in the Xbox Insider testing phase, so its broader rollout and any further changes will determine how it ultimately fits into the Xbox achievement system.
