Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei Set for First One-on-One Meeting With Trump

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei is set to have a private dinner with President Donald Trump at the White House, marking their first one-on-one meeting.

Axios first reported the meeting, which follows months of tension between Anthropic and the Trump administration over AI policy and safety.

Amodei has called for a more cautious approach to developing increasingly capable AI systems. Trump, by contrast, has dismissed some warnings about catastrophic AI risks and has promoted a more aggressive approach to U.S. AI development, including proposing that the technology be reframed as “super intelligence.”

Dinner follows months of tension with the administration

A dispute with the Pentagon has also complicated Anthropic’s relationship with the administration. Earlier this year, the Defence Department designated the company a supply-chain risk following disagreements over restrictions Anthropic sought to place on certain uses of its technology.

Anthropic has challenged that designation in court, while other administration officials have taken a more receptive approach toward the company.

The White House dinner gives Amodei and Trump their first opportunity for a direct private discussion as debate continues over how quickly advanced AI should be developed and what safeguards should accompany it.
