Apple is cutting more than 200 jobs across teams working on Vision Pro, Siri and artificial intelligence as the company redirects resources toward newer devices and AI initiatives.
About 100 positions are being eliminated from the Vision Pro organisation, while roughly another 100 cuts affect Siri and other software groups, according to Bloomberg, which cited people familiar with the changes.
Vision Pro and Siri teams face restructuring
Apple is largely shutting down a team focused on gaming for Vision Pro and reducing the group responsible for producing immersive video content for the headset. The changes come as the company reassesses how resources are allocated within its spatial-computing operations.
The restructuring also affects Siri and Apple’s Intelligent Systems Experience group, a software engineering team involved in bringing AI capabilities to the company’s devices. Apple is reorganising those operations as it develops a newer AI architecture and shifts the expertise required for future products.
Apple confirmed the staffing changes to Bloomberg, saying the company is evolving its business to deliver better user experiences. It said new positions will be created as part of the reorganisation, although a limited number of existing roles will be affected.
The cuts represent a relatively targeted reduction for Apple rather than a companywide layoff program. They also highlight how the company is reallocating engineering resources as artificial intelligence becomes a larger part of its product strategy and as it evaluates the future of Vision Pro-related projects.
