OpenAI is reportedly in talks with investors to raise at least $30 billion in a new private funding round, which could value the ChatGPT maker at about $1.4 trillion, according to Bloomberg.

The potential investment comes as investors continue to show strong interest in OpenAI ahead of its expected transition to public markets. The company has seen significant revenue growth in recent months, with its annualised revenue reportedly reaching $40 billion in August after a strategic focus on areas such as AI coding tools.

OpenAI’s Path Toward an IPO

OpenAI previously raised $122 billion in March at an $852 billion valuation. That funding was expected to be the company’s final private fundraising round before an initial public offering.

However, CEO Sam Altman has said the company will not pursue a public debut in 2026, prioritising AI safety efforts before moving toward an IPO.

“I think it is unacceptable to be taking like a 10% chance of killing everybody by the end of the decade,” Altman told Fortune while discussing concerns raised by AI safety researchers.

Funding Round Could Bridge IPO Plans

If completed, the reported $30 billion fundraising would act as a bridge round before OpenAI’s eventual public offering. The company’s latest valuation would place it among the most valuable private technology companies in the world.
