Amazon Redesigns Kindle With Flush-Front Display and Lighter Build
Amazon redesigned the Kindle with a flush-front display, thinner, lighter hardware, faster page turns, new colours, and updated Paperwhite and Colorsoft models.
Amazon is giving the Kindle one of its most significant physical redesigns in years, replacing the familiar raised bezel with a flush-front display while making the e-reader thinner and lighter.
The redesigned Kindle uses capacitive touch technology and haptics to detect where a reader’s finger is resting. Amazon says the device can create a temporary touch “dead zone” around that area, helping prevent accidental page turns while holding the bezel-free device.
The standard six-inch Kindle is now 6.8 millimetres thick and weighs 140 grams. Amazon also says its display turns pages 30% faster than the previous generation.
New Kindle starts at $149.99
The new Kindle starts at $149.99 and is available in Ube and Graphite. For the first time, Amazon is also offering an aluminium-backed Kindle with 32GB of storage and colour options, ns including Alpine Sky and Seaglass Green.
The redesign extends to the Kindle Paperwhite, which is also thinner and lighter than its predecessor. Amazon says the Paperwhite still offers the largest display in the Kindle lineup, with its highest contrast ratio.
The standard Paperwhite includes 16GB of storage and costs $199.99 in Graphite. A 32GB Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition costs $249.99 and is available in Graphite and Seaglass Green.
Colorsoft gets the same slimmer design
The Kindle Colorsoft, introduced in 2024 as Amazon’s first Kindle with a colour display, now adopts the same thinner, lighter and flush-front design. The 16GB model starts at $289.99 in Graphite.
A 32GB Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition costs $319.99 and comes in Graphite and Fig.
The new Kindle and aluminium-backed version are available now across markets including the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Germany, France, Japan, Australia and several other countries. The refreshed Paperwhite and Colorsoft models are available for preorder in the same regions.
Amazon is also continuing its Kindle Kids lineup. The Kids Kindle is available for purchase, while the Kids Kindle Colorsoft is available for preorder in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Germany and Japan.
By removing the raised bezel without eliminating a comfortable place to hold the device, Amazon is attempting to make the Kindle smaller and lighter while preserving the reading experience that has defined the product for years.
