Flipper Busy Bar Debuts as a Customizable Smart Display for Better Focus
Flipper Busy Bar is a customizable smart LED display designed to reduce distractions, improve productivity, display status messages, and automate focus sessions with smart integrations.
London-based Flipper Devices, best known for its Flipper Zero gadget used by hackers, developers, and hardware enthusiasts to interact with Bluetooth, RFID, NFC, and sub-1GHz radio systems, has introduced a new product focused on workplace productivity rather than cybersecurity. The company’s latest device, called Busy Bar, is designed to help users manage their time, block distracting apps, and display personalised messages and widgets through an LED display.
Flipper Devices first unveiled the Busy Bar last year and has now confirmed that the device will officially go on open sale next month. Designed to resemble a compact desktop clock, the Busy Bar features multiple physical buttons and control knobs. On the front is a 72×16 LED matrix display capable of producing up to 400 nits of brightness, supporting 16 million colours, and automatically adjusting brightness using a built-in ambient light sensor.
The rear of the device houses a monochrome display that presents status information, timer details, battery level, and connectivity indicators. This allows users to monitor essential information even when the primary display is facing away from them. The Busy Bar also includes a small side-mounted speaker that can play custom notification sounds and alerts.
At the top of the unit are several physical controls, including a mode selector switch, a start/stop button, a status indicator, and a scroll wheel that lets users navigate menus and adjust timer settings. The device supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and USB connectivity.
Busy Bar is powered by a 3,250mAh battery, which Flipper Devices says can provide up to 8 hours of continuous active use or up to 2 weeks in standby mode. According to the company, the battery can be fully recharged in approximately one hour when connected to a 15W power adapter.
The concept behind the product is to let users clearly communicate when they are focused on a particular task. By displaying customised messages, Busy Bar can notify colleagues, family members, or housemates that the user should not be interrupted. This makes it particularly useful for remote workers sharing a home environment. Users can also configure Pomodoro-style timers to organise focused work sessions and scheduled breaks throughout the day.
To complement the hardware, Flipper Devices is launching companion applications for iOS, Android, and macOS, with Windows support planned for a future release. On iOS and Android, users can block selected applications using different timer configurations to reduce distractions. On macOS, Busy Bar integrates with the system microphone to automatically display an “On Call” status and silence notifications whenever users join online meetings, begin recording, or start live streaming.
The Busy Bar is also Matter-certified, allowing it to integrate with existing smart home ecosystems from Amazon, Apple, and Google. As a result, users can create smart home automations that respond to the device’s current status, enabling connected devices to react automatically based on work modes or activity.
Flipper Devices has also designed Busy Bar with developers in mind by providing open firmware that supports extensive customisation. Developers can build their own widgets and integrations using the device’s open HTTP API, MQTT support, and official Python and TypeScript libraries. Users can also control the Busy Bar remotely via the company’s cloud API.
Customers can join the product waitlist and purchase the Busy Bar at a discounted launch price of $179. Once open sales begin, the first 3,000 buyers will be able to purchase the device for $199, after which the standard retail price will increase to $249. Shipping is scheduled to begin on July 14 across the United States, the European Union, the United Kingdom, and Canada. Flipper Devices also plans to introduce a range of accessories, including wall mounts, screen protectors, and custom switches.
