Marco Arment, the developer behind Overcast and Instapaper, has launched Unforgetful, a new reminders app designed for people who frequently snooze, dismiss or lose track of unfinished tasks.

Available for iOS and Mac, Unforgetful works directly with a user’s existing Apple Reminders database rather than creating a separate task system. That means reminders added manually or via Siri can continue to work as before.

Unforgetful makes reminders harder to ignore

The biggest difference is how Unforgetful handles notifications. Alerts continue to repeat even when they are missed or dismissed, and they stop only after the underlying task is completed and deleted.

Arment said his frustration with Apple’s Reminders app helped inspire the product. He specifically pointed to accidentally dismissing notifications instead of snoozing them and missing reminders that were created without a specific notification time.

Unforgetful also changes how snoozing works. The intervals increase as a task is repeatedly postponed, while the app is designed to avoid presenting too many overdue tasks at once.

The app deliberately keeps organisation simple. It does not include tags, multiple views, modes, and other advanced task-management features available in Apple Reminders, making it more focused on repeatedly surfacing items that still need to be done.

Apple Reminders and Siri remain part of the workflow

Because Unforgetful usesApple’ss existing Reminders database, users do not need to tell Siri to save tasks specifically to the new app. They can instead turn off Apple Reminders notifications and rely on Unforgetful to handle the alerts.

The same integration also means users who stop using Unforgetful do not have to export their tasks back to Apple because the reminders remain stored in the existing database.

Unforgetful includes its own microphone for adding reminders by voice, as well as widgets for the Lock Screen and Control Centre.

The app costs $19.99 per year and works across iOS and Mac. For users who want extensive task organisation, Apple’s built-in Reminders app still offers more features. Still, Unforgetful is built around a narrower goal: making unfinished reminders considerably harder to forget.
