Uber and Chinese autonomous driving company Pony.ai plan to deploy more than 2,000 robotaxis across Europe, expanding their partnership to bring autonomous ride-hailing services to more markets.

The rollout will build on plans for Zagreb, Croatia, and extend to four additional European cities. The companies have not named those cities or provided a deployment timeline, saying details will be announced in phases.

Uber and Pony.ai expand European robotaxi plans

Under the partnership, Pony.ai will provide the autonomous driving technology, while Uber will connect the vehicles with passengers through its ride-hailing platform. Local providers may handle fleet services, including maintenance, cleaning, and charging, while vehicle ownership may vary by market.

The arrangement givePony.ai’s's joint-deployment model a clearer path to commercial scale while allowing Uber to add autonomous vehicles from another technology provider to its platform.

Partnership moves beyond its Middle East focus

Uber and Pony.ai first partnered in May 2025 with an initial focus on the Middle East. Pony.ai already operates autonomous vehicle services in four Chinese cities and has pursued partnerships to expand into European and Middle Eastern markets, including Qatar.

Uber has partnerships with more than 30 autonomous vehicle companies. Earlier in 2026, Uber and Pony.ai also announced plans with Croatian company Verne for a commercial robotaxi service in Zagreb.

The latest expansion would take the partnership into four more European cities, although the companies have not yet disclosed where those services will launch or when passengers will be able to use them.
