Google Play has added Venmo as a payment option in the United States, giving users another way to pay for apps, games, add-ons and other digital content.

Google said users can pay through their Venmo balance or use other payment methods linked to their Venmo account, including bank accounts and cards.

The integration also supports recurring subscriptions and payments such as tips to creators inside eligible content-based apps.

Venmo joins Google Play’s payment options

Users can connect Venmo by opening the payment methods section in their Google Play account settings and linking their account.

Google Play already supports several payment options in the U.S., including PayPal and Cash App. Customers can also use cards issued through American Express, Visa, Mastercard, Discover and JCB.

Google has experimented with other approaches outside the U.S. as it looks to make digital purchases accessible to users who may not rely on traditional payment cards. In some markets, the company has tested allowing customers to pay for digital purchases with cash at participating physical stores.

App spending continues to grow

The addition of Venmo comes as consumers continue spending more on mobile apps and games worldwide.

Global consumer spending across Apple’s App Store and Google Play exceeded $167 billion in 2025, according to data from analytics firm Sensor Tower. That represented a 10.6% increase from the previous year.

Adding another widely used digital wallet gives Google Play users greater flexibility when purchasing digital content while potentially making it easier for developers and creators to receive payments from customers who prefer Venmo over cards or other payment services.
