Neko Health to Open First US Body-Scanning Centre in New York

Neko Health will open its first U.S. location in New York on Sept. 24, bringing the health-scanning startup co-founded by Spotify CEO Daniel Ek to Manhattan after building its business in Europe.

The centre will operate at 300 Lafayette Street in SoHo. Neko said more than 25,000 New Yorkers have already joined a waitlist for its health assessment service ahead of the opening.

Ek founded Neko Health with Hjalmar Nilsonne, who serves as thecompany’ss CEO. The startup has developed proprietary body-scanning technology that it combines with bloodwork and information from fitness devices to assess a person’s health.

The New York opening expands Neko beyond its existing locations in Sweden and the U.K. The company said last month that 100,000 people had undergone scans when it announced a $700 million Series C funding round.

Health scanning attracts more tech investment.

Neko is entering the U.S. as other technology entrepreneurs and investors pursue businesses built around health assessments and body scanning.

AI company Midjourney is developing a body scanner that it plans to incorporate into a spa experience, with a San Francisco opening planned for 2027. Fountain Life, the longevity company associated with Tony Robbins and Peter Diamandis, also offers scans and health assessments.

Function Health, co-founded by Dr Mark Hyman, has expanded beyond blood testing to include body scans following its acquisition of Ezra. The company recently secured a $450 million loan from General Catalyst’s Customer Value Fund, which uses a financing model in which companies repay capital through profit-sharing arrangements.

For Neko, the SoHo centre marks its first direct expansion into the U.S. market and puts its scanning technology in front of more than 25,000 New Yorkers who have already expressed interest in the service.
